A worksite assessment is an in-depth assessment of the employee in their work environment.
This type of assessment is recommended when an employee is struggling to complete aspects of their job due to an injury or chronic health condition.
This type of assessment may be required when an employee is returning to work after a period of absence due to injury, illness or disabling health condition. The onsite assessment process is customised to suit the unique circumstances of the employee and the needs of the employer.
Physical, cognitive, mental health and/or environmental barriers to work-related function may be considered in this type of assessment; with the goal being to determine how these factors can be addressed to support the employee to successfully manage the demands of their job.
The assessment typically includes
Interview with employee to determine employee concerns, current symptoms and history of their health condition.
Assessment of employee’s functional ability. This might consider mobility, lifting, reaching, cognitive skills, ability to cope with stresses, etc.
Job demands analysis: what tasks is the employee responsible for in the workplace?
Work environment assessment, including ergonomic review.
Collaboration and liaison with the wider workplace team including Management, Human Resources and/or Health and Safety.
Following the assessment an action plan will be developed to support the employee in the workplace, including recommendations to specifically address the concerns of the employer and employee. Recommendations may include temporary or permanent job accommodations, task modification, assistive technology, ergonomic solutions, cognitive strategies, practical coping strategies for the employee, gradual work re-entry.
A detailed report is provided detailing the assessment findings and recommendations.
