A Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is designed to systematically assess one’s functional abilities and physical tolerances with respect to the specific demands of their job.
This type of assessment is used to determine if the employee can safely complete the physical demands of the job within the expected time frames and production standards.
It includes assessment of physical functioning such as walking, standing, lifting, carrying, reaching, grip strength and manual dexterity. This type of assessment considers pain symptoms and effort testing.
An FCE can assist to:
Determine an employee’s ability/readiness to return to work.
Identify required job modifications.
Inform work -focused rehabilitation.
Recommend a return to work plan and timeframe.
